Looking for a Joist alternative?

Joist is a solid, focused tool: estimates and invoices for contractors, without the weight of a full field-service platform. If it’s falling short for you, it’s usually for one of two reasons — you’re tired of filling in forms on a phone, or you want to know what a job actually made, not just what it billed.

When Joist is the better choice

  • You genuinely prefer typing into a form. Some people do, and voice capture is not an upgrade if you don’t want it — it’s a different way of working.
  • You only need estimates and invoices, nothing else, and you’d rather pay for a narrow tool than a broader one.
  • You’re already set up, your customers are used to your documents, and nothing about your current workflow is costing you jobs. "It works" is a real reason to stay.

Side by side

What’s actually different, beyond both products producing a tidy PDF.

Voiczer’s prices are the ones published on this site. Anything described about Joist reflects how the product is generally structured rather than a quoted price — competitors change pricing and run promotions, so check their own site for current figures before deciding.

The overlap is real, so start with the difference

Both products will get a branded, itemised estimate in front of a customer and turn it into an invoice. If that is the entire job to be done, the honest answer is that either works and switching is not urgent.

The difference shows up in two places. The first is input: one asks you to type, the other asks you to talk. On a phone, standing in someone’s hallway, that gap is bigger than it sounds — it’s the difference between doing the quote now and doing it tonight.

The second difference is knowing what you kept

Invoicing tools are good at revenue and mostly silent on cost, which means they can tell you that you had a strong month without being able to tell you which jobs carried it and which ones quietly lost money.

Voiczer treats cost as part of the job rather than an accounting afterthought: log materials by voice, photograph a receipt and have the amount, supplier and date read off it, and see per-job margin. If you’ve ever finished a job with a vague feeling that it wasn’t worth it, that’s the gap this closes.

The short version

If Joist is working and you like typing, there’s no crisis here — stay.

If you’d rather talk than type, or you want the margin side as well as the billing side, that’s the specific reason to move.
